FibroScan®

FibroScan® uses ultrasound waves to measure liver stiffness, which provides information on the amount of scarring and fat in the liver. As an added benefit, FibroScan® is brief, painless, and a fraction of the cost of liver biopsy. "We can now offer our patients with liver disease a safe, non-invasive, and cost-effective way to assess the amount of fat in the liver and to watch for development of scarring. We can repeat the testing more frequently than a liver biopsy which will help us watch for changes in the amount of fat or scarring in the liver over time. This information will help us provide better treatment recommendations for our patients."
